Great AGM, with a super turnout. MSA has sure come a long way since that first AGM at the marina back in 1999 with 4 people in attendance. Keep up the good work. I plan to renew my membership as soon as I get another $20 from Donna.

Sounds like Kevin did an excellent job in all respects.

Great to see leading racers and members stepping forth to volunteer for race committe work.

I see the New Brunswick Laser circuit has a few conflicts with the MSA schedule...will do the one design racing first.

Great racing and weather at the Bermuda International Invitational Race Week....results not great for this old age pensioner but I did not finish last. Body is pretty well beaten up as we only had one day with winds below 13 knots.

Oh well the event is sponsored by Barcardi and I ended up with a big bottle of thier product to nurse the sore muscles and bruises

Thanks John for the public grammar lesson, I guess I should have stayed at UNB for the full 4 year program instead of one. Good to see some are checking the website. More boating discussion would be better.

Thank you Ann H. for your kind remarks, and for offering your boat so readily, and for bringing corn and cooking it on Cruiser's Day.
It was great to have that sort of response to the Sailing Camp. Initially I thought it might be an uphill struggle to get people to sign on for a week of precious summer, and I was tremendously impressed at how everyone got behind the idea.
The whole Cygnus fleet deserves special mention for their unswerving good humour and patience for our four days, and for making a showing at the Scout Camp on Friday evening.
In case you don't know who you are, you are Mike Cote, Ken Clark, Steve Turner, and Jack Kipping. Jack and Steve were particularly involved in the advance planning, and Mike did the teaching graphics and tendered ideas. Ken was his usual quiet competent self.
The cruising fleet was equally strong, especially as their day, Wednesday, was wet and miserable. It was a bit of a triumph that the day turned out well, and that reflects well on the quality of the students too. Helene and Trevor need special mention for putting up with endless encroaching liberties from myself, and providing the BBQ, aided by Ann. Dino loaned his boat while off elsewhere while Ben took responsibilty for it and the day's sailing plans, Dale distinguished himself by being the only skipper to lose a crewmember, albeit temporarily, and being goodnatured enough to have me mention it in print. Rod impressed everyone by leading the fleet both ways (as usual (he says)).
Finally, Peter Kent is a superb organizer, (Steve Turner, who should know, calls him "scary good"). He is so easy to work with and it was such a relief to have the Scouts shipped, fed, and camped without the club having to do anything about it.

I'm hopeful that we'll do this again next year. I'm also hopeful that we'll have more students. The Cygnus fleet can theoretically handle 5x3=15 students, but it almost seems too much to hope for. The whole structure of the week is up for discussion and a complete rethink if we want to, except that the Scout participation aspect is too good a deal for us to pass up. My own view is that it worked well this time, but that we might widen our skipper base if clubmembers are willing.

My greatest thanks to all who participated, lent boats, lent slips, lent support and enthusiasm. John Rankin

Hi Chris, re your word search "discerning" above.
I believe the word you are fishing for is "disconcerting", i.e. to find oneself in a situation which is upsetting, or which may ruffle you by creating disorder.
Discerning is a word applied to someone of perceptive taste, who likes fine red wines or Cygnus sailboats.

By the time the radio notification was aired the pond was already down 4'. NB Power can go to 128' elevation without any public notification. Normal full is 133' above sea level. I believe they took the pond down to about 129' in preparation for the possibility of 100+mm of rain. Not the first time the low pond grounded boats in the marina but it is a bit discerning (is that a word) to see your boat on the hard with water all around it. Usually no damage.

On another note, 4 of us went to Woodstock by car last night for the corn boil and the same situation had occured in their marina with the low water. This was the first time in 15 years the association did not have boats in the Valley Yacht Club for their annual fundraising event. They understood the weather concerns and hope for next year.

One third note is one to remind everyone just how fast things can happen on the water. One of our Woodstock friends lost their boat Friday night while on a beautiful evening cruise just outside the marina. The boat was a 30', beautiful wooden vessel called "Misty Blue". A labour of love that caught fire and burned to the water, a total loss. The captain and crew had seconds to abandon the boat in their tender only to watch the loss. Many years this boat traveled the river and we will all miss her. The good note is that there were no injuries and the decision to abandon was done quickly. Always try to have a plan for the unexpected.
