The MSA had the first overnight cruise of the 2012 sailing season. We warmed up with a Friday night bonfire, although midway through, we had to relocate to the storage building so we could watch the spectacular lighting storm that passed through the night. After a filling breakfast at the Riverside Resort and some minor provisioning three boats , departed Walinaik Cove at 1:15 for Nackawic on Saturday June 30th. We travelled as far as Steeple Cove and had to tie up to allow for some minor thundershowers to pass through. We arrived at the newly built Mariners Point RV Park in Nackawick at 830, to enjoy a Pig Roast as well as live music by professional musician John Myshrall, of the band Flat Top. The night ended with a beautiful fireworks display at the RV park. It was thoroughly a fun and relaxing day. One great thing about staying at the RV park was that there were newly built shower facilities.
On Canada Day, we had a brisk sail again to Steeple Cove where we started a Canada Day Celebration and toasted our great country with some Champagne and some sparkling wine, we then stayed for a swim. We felt as good sailors we should continue the Canada Day celebrations, so the three boats rafted together and we cruised along back to the Walinaik Cove, and arrived at 8:00 pm, in time for the Fireworks in Fredericton, although I think all crews were in bed long before the first fireworks went off. Overall it was a successful first cruise of the season.
