The Mactaquac Sailing Association, formed in 1969, is an association in name and in practice. Truly a community, it has come together to support the many facets of the sport of sailing. Some MSA members have been sailing for less than five years and are first-time boat buyers while others are among NB’s most experienced sailors having competed in national and international regattas, coached racing at the provincial level, sailed oceans, been lifetime sailors, or spent years as professional skippers in the Caribbean. No matter what your level of experience, you are sure to feel at home in the Mactaquac Sailing Association.
Home Port is beautiful, scenic harbour called Walinaik Cove in York Centennial Park (N 45.929 W 66.864 WGS 84). Found just a few kilometres past the entrance to Mactaquac Provincial Park, this idyllic location was gifted to the Province of NB by the people of York County with the condition that admission is never charged and the area remains open to the public.
Operated by as an adjunct to Mactaquac Provincial Park, the Walinaik Cove Marina in York Centennial Park offers a docking system with 9 slips, open docking area for all to load passengers, 30 moorings, a secure area to store dinghies and tenders, two boat sheds with lockers, a sheltered TiKi B-B-Q area, and a common use dingy.
Moorings are available for $200 per year and can be obtained from the Park by calling 363-4747.
The MSA is for both the recreational and the competitive sailor. Close proximity to the City of Fredericton makes Mactaquac ideal for after work recreational sailing of which members take advantage. Most weekdays after work you will find families out for a sail & BBQ. On the weekends, the facilities and fire pit in Walinaik Cove see constant use by members and their families. New members are sure to find a friendly welcome.
Mactaquac’s winds have much to offer the competitive sailor and the monthly races can see up to 19 boats coming to the line. A well organized race committee assures a place for boats of all sizes and skippers of all abilities.
