Calling all Stations,
This is the Commodore,

We had a great AGM last night with one pile of people showing up and participating actively.

Ken Clarke stepped down as Vice Commodore and, for me personally, Ken was a great help last year. Sort of the MSA’s one-man chamber of sober second thought. Thanks Ken.

Let’s raise the membership and race fees.

Let’s raise the rates and at this year’s AGM. Okay, first we should discuss raising annual MSA membership to $20 and race fees to $10 per boat at the AGM.

In my twisted understanding of finances, we had a $518 surplus in 2009…well, sort of. In 2009, the “seasonal operations” of the MSA resulted in a $518 surplus if we adjusted the income and expenses statement to factor out both expense and revenue related to “non-core” activities of the MSA. The non-core items would be Storage Income, Port-A-Potti expenses and revenues, and purchasing the Cal Creaser Cup.

Changing Executive Structure

I will be bringing a proposal on changing the MSA executive structure to the AGM. Take a look at the following and please post any comments you wish to share.

The structure of the MSA executive needs to change to reflect the increase in membership and the diverse interests of those members. Another reason for the needed change is that too much falls on the Commodore and unless that can be changed I’ll never find a G.D. replacement.

Commodore: Role relates to the MSA having a vision & direction for the future and good management during the current year.

MSA Executive: How not to burn out people.”

I’d like each of you to think about what you can do to keep the MSA running smoothly.

There are 2 types of involvement. One puts you on the executive as:

  • The Commodore,
  • The Vice Commodore,
  • The Treasurer,
  • The Race Committee Chair,
  • Rear Commodore, (yet to be established and looks after MSA physical assets)
  • Social Director (yet to be established),
  • Cruise Committee Chair (yet to be established).

I will be nagging each and every one of  you to consider taking on a position on the executive. Get your excuses ready.
