2011 Commodore’s Report

MSA’s Commodores’ Report on 2011

The summer of 2011 proved to be a great sailing season.  The year began with a successful crane in; we had approximately 34 boats in the water within 3 hours without incidents.   Crane out was equally successful.  Many thanks to Guy and Jocelyn for organizing both dates and to all members whom participated.  Great team work was demonstrated by all.

Welcome many new members

Park Relations:

Park is finalizing the tendering process adding 10-12 more slips with the continued participation of MSA Executive.

Ken Clarke stepped down as Vice Commodore and, for me personally, Ken was a great help last year. Sort of the MSA’s one-man chamber of sober second thought. Thanks Ken.

Changing Executive Structure

Calling All Stations
This is the Commodore

I will be bringing a proposal on changing the MSA executive structure to the AGM. Take a look at the following and please post any comments you wish to share.

The structure of the MSA executive needs to change to reflect the increase in membership and the diverse interests of those members. Another reason for the needed change is that too much falls on the Commodore and unless that can be changed I’ll never find a G.D. replacement.

Commodore: Role relates to the MSA having a vision & direction for the future and good management during the current year.

MSA Executive: How not to burn out people.”

Calling All Station
This is the Commodore.

I’d like each of you to think about what you can do to keep the MSA running smoothly.

There are 2 types of involvement. One puts you on the executive as:

  • The Commodore,
  • The Vice Commodore,
  • The Treasurer,
  • The Race Committee Chair,
  • Rear Commodore, (yet to be established and looks after MSA physical assets)
  • Social Director (yet to be established),
  • Cruise Committee Chair (yet to be established).

I will be nagging each and every one of  you to consider taking on a position on the executive. Get your excuses ready.
